Barcelona-based production, distribution and sales company Filmax has taken over international sales for Spanish director Víctor García León’s new comedy “One Hell of a Holiday!”
Filmax presents the trailer to international buyers at this week’s Malaga Film Festival on Mafiz’s Spanish Screening Content, a massive industry platform where Filmax is also talking about a series of titles headlined by “Girl, Unknown.” and “Co-Husbands.”
“One hell of a vacation!” It is written by Manuel Burque and Josep Gatell (“Undercover Wedding Intruders”). This story of grandparents follows Manuela and José, two grandparents who love taking care of their grandchildren but who are fed up with their children throwing at them every five minutes.
In fact, Manuela and José don’t remember when was the last time they had free time. To make matters worse, they have had to cancel their summer vacation, because their children have an important business trip and need to take care of the grandchildren. It won’t be long before they find out the truth. His children are on vacation in Bali.
Iván Díaz, International Director of Filmax, said: “We are delighted to be working again with Telecinco Cinema, Quexito and Aliwood on ‘One Hell of a Holiday!’ a fresh and funny comedy, but which also addresses an undeniable social reality, the excessive burden that grandparents have to bear in our country when it comes to taking care of their grandchildren, a fact that is obvious to anyone who has ever been to pick up their children from a Spanish school”.
The film’s A-list cast includes Tito Valverde (“Pepa y Pepe”), Gracia Olayo (“El vecino”), Toni Acosta (“Mirror Mirror,” “Polyamory for Dummies”) and Ernesto Sevilla (“I Can Quit Whenever I Want”). The cast is completed by the actors Ramón Barea (“Lullaby”), Nuria Herrero (“Knock Knock”), Daniela Rubio (“El Internado”), Ricardo Mas, Marta de Toro and Nicolás Costi.
The film is produced by Telecinco Cinema, Quexito Films, Aliwood Mediterráneo Producciones, Creced and Multiplicaos AIE, with the participation of Mediaset España, Movistar Plus+ and Grupo Mediterráneo Mediaset España.
Eduardo Jiménez, producer of the Quexito film said: “The film shows a situation that is repeated in all kinds of homes and families: grandparents taking care of grandchildren. What at first is an opportunity for grandparents and grandchildren to strengthen ties, some parents take it as the opportunity to have nannies all year round.
“Whether you are a father, a grandfather or a grandson, this story touches us all. In a very natural way, we identify with any of the characters. In other words, this is not just the premise of a movie, this is real and it is happening to us,” said Miguel González of Quexito Films, producer of the hit Spanish comedies “Es por tu bien” and “Operación Camerón.”
Director strongly influenced by Luis Berlanga’s co-writer, Rafael Azcona, one of the greatest authors of Spanish cinema, García León (“The Europeans”, “Selfie”) was nominated in 2001 for the Goya Awards of the Spanish Academy in the category for best new director for his frustrated high school romantic comedy “Mis pena que Gloria.”
He added: “‘One hell of a vacation!’ is a charming comedy that pays homage to all grandparents. It’s a wacky, quirky adventure the whole family will love.”
Mafiz, the industry arm of the Malaga Festival, hosts the Spanish Screening Content, part of a four-pronged initiative to boost Spanish film and television exports. The Finance and Tech leg is deployed at the San Sebastian Festival in September, the financial part in collaboration with CAA.
