If you’ve found that your Destiny 2 Reaper mod isn’t working, you’re not alone: Amid largely negative first impressions of Lightfall, Bungie has had to disable both Reaper and Dynamo mods due to a bonanza of Super exploits.
“Due to an issue, we have temporarily disabled the Reaper and Dynamo armor mods,” Bungie says in a post. cheep (opens in a new tab). The developers haven’t really defined what that problem is, but it seems clear that it’s a couple of Super exploits that came along with Lightfall.
The Reaper mod is meant to generate an orb of power when you kill with a weapon after using a class ability, and it’s a pretty valuable orb generator for many builds. But once you got that kill in PvP, you could run to the center of the map, remove the mod, and enjoy a massive rain of orbs, as shown in the video below.
Meanwhile, Dynamo is supposed to reduce the cooldown of Super when you use a class ability near targets. The issue here is less of an exploit, and more of the mod getting too good, generating a lot more Super energy than it probably intended. Amusingly, even though Lightfall introduced a new mod system, this isn’t the first time the Dynamo mod has been used in this way.
Lightfall has been taking a beating so far, mostly due to its vague story and lackluster debut for the new Strand subclass. Our Destiny 2 Lightfall review, while still in progress, says that “this campaign is not redeemable,” and early Steam reviews have pushed the expansion to a “mostly negative” rating. How the post-Lightfall end game will tickle players as Destiny 2’s live service progresses remains to be seen, and things seem to be looking up as our reviewer plays more post-story content, but the state of initial mood has not been good. .
