Published

on

After Deployment Coachella-themed fashion items drop out in Fortnite last year, Coachella expands even further in games with the launch Coachella Islanda new direction in Fortnite that allows players to virtually experience a popular music festival.

Coachella Island kicks off tomorrow, April 14th at 3pm ET. Gamers can find the new destination in Fortnite’s Epic Choice bar or enter the island code: 5449-4207-12803.

Created by the creators of Alliance Studios using creative play mode, the island features a virtual market stall and arts park, as well as desert skies, mountains, polo fields and palm trees inspired by the festival landscape.

The art park has recreated virtual replicas of the festival’s most famous art installations created by the Fortnite community. This includes the Coachella Ferris wheel, Spectra and balloon chains, as well as two new art installations coming to the festival this year and the Fortography Gallery.

Gamers can also participate in creator-created music and art activities such as mini-games and quests. Users can listen to the Icon radio in the game, featuring songs and artists from the 2023 Coachella line-up.

“The future of in-game music and art is not to mimic the real world, but to reimagine magic and make it more accessible with a new medium,” Sam Schoonover, head of innovation at Coachella, said in a statement. “We believe the best way to do this is to give artists the opportunity to show us the way. Just as the IRL festival is a stage for musicians, Coachella Island is now a canvas for game creators. Fortnite provides the tools needed to invite creators and fans to participate in this creative process.”

Elon Musk says Twitter will introduce pay per article in May

Published

on

Twitter could provide publishers with a new way to make money from their content beyond the usual recurring subscription. According to CEO Elon Musk, Twitter will allow media publishers to charge users for access to individual articles they post on the website as early as next month. Users will end up paying a higher price per article than the cost of accessing each article if they had a subscription instead. But Musk said it’s for those who want to occasionally read stories from a specific source, so each article probably won’t cost as much as a monthly subscription.

However, for now, details about the upcoming feature remain vague. Musk has only said that it will start rolling out next month — it’s not clear which accounts and media outlets will be able to offer pay per article. In addition, the owner of Twitter did not disclose how much the website would charge in commission. When the company officially replaced Super Follows with Subscriptions, Musk announced that he would not take money from creators for the next 12 months. At the end of the year, Twitter will I take a 10% discount by subscription.

Engadget reached out to the website for clarification, but no longer has a press office. We’ll have to wait for more information to see if Twitter implements the same rule for pay per article. Ultimately, the company will get a stake — Musk-led Twitter is rolling out more and more paid features to boost revenue. It’s pretty common knowledge at this point that its confirmation badge is now a perk on the $8/month Blue subscription. Twitter has also shut down its free API in order to launch a new one that users will have to pay for. Access to the new API will cost enterprise customers nearly $50,000 per month, which is why some organizations and companies, such as the New York City Transportation Authority, have decided to end the Twitter integration or leave the website instead.

Before I Knew New York, I Knew Liberty City: A Retrospective of the GTA IV Setting

Published

Today, April 29, 2023, Grand Theft Auto IV celebrates its 15th anniversary. A New Yorker recalls how Rockstar’s imaginary version of Manhattan helped him connect with his home.

Ask anyone I’ve ever featured in New York and they’ll tell you that I call myself “the worst New Yorker.” It’s because for the longest time in my life I just didn’t know it. I knew the city as a skyline that I could see from my window and maps that I could refer to online, but I rarely went out and explored my own home. I couldn’t tell you from the bottom of the Manhattan grid, and I certainly couldn’t point you to any specific spot. As a young man, this handicap was easy to attribute to the fact that I had a busy immigrant family that couldn’t afford to take me with them as a child. However, later in life, when opportunities arose in adolescence, it was social anxieties and, unfortunately, learned behaviors that kept me staying at home and playing games instead. And so, for the longest time in my life, I had no intimate knowledge or connection to the only place I ever called home. At least that was the case until Grand Theft Auto IV came into my life.
